EICR

An EICR starts at £150 for a 1-2 bed flat.

Beware of companies offering cheap EICRs.

To carry out an EICR properly takes time and experience. I have come across many companies that charge an extremely cheap price for an EICR. In reality all they are doing is getting a way into your property to then make a list of items they can charge you for. I have seen many cheap EICRs result in the owner being told they need to spend £1000+ for works to get a Failed report into a  Satisfactory report.

Common misconceptions are

-An EICR is a certificate, it is not a certificate it is a report. There is no such thing as a certificate for an existing installation, a certificate can only be given to a new installation and only by the person carrying out the works.

-If the installation fails, only the company that issued the failed report can do the remedial work. False, as long as evidence that the remedial work has been carried out is attached to the unsatisfactory report, this will suffice.

A NICEIC certificate has been asked for. This is a bit like calling a vacuum cleaner a hoover. NICEIC is just the association, I belong to NAPIT, The reports are the same and all to BS7671. As stated above, it is not a certificate, it’s a report.
